Nouveau millionaire grocer Richard DeVere (Peter Bowles) is living at the prestigious Grantleigh Manor and his life is made considerably more difficult by the fact that Grantleigh's former owner, Audrey Fforbes-Hamilton (Penelope Keith) also lives in the lodge.
