Film information

Story: First series of the monument in British comedy featuring Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett. Chock-full with razor-sharp wordplay, sight gags and double entendres galore, The Two Ronnies became a national institution in no time flat. With regular sketches like their 'Newsdesk' (sample headline: 'the perfect crime committed: thieves broke into Scotland Yard and stole all the toilets. Police say they have absolutely nothing to go on') 'The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town' and their spoof period drama 'Hampton Wick'. Other weekly features included their wordplay introduction (sample: 'this evening we had hoped to have been bringing you Arthur the Human Chameleon, but this afternoon, he crawled across a tartan rug and died of exhaustion', the pint-sized Corbett's hilariously rambling monologue delivered from a huge leather chair and a musical guest that always seemed to be Barbara Dickson though to be fair, this initial series features pop singer of the time, Tina Charles.

Starring: Ronnie Barker, Ronnie Corbett, Madeline Smith, Michael Ward

Directed by: James Gilbert, Terry Hughes, Marcus Mortimer, Brian Penders, Marcus Plantin, Peter Whitmore
