Film information

Based on: The novels by Baroness Orczy

Story: Richard E. Grant stars as the elusive Pimpernel in this adaptation based on the novels by Baroness Orczy. In 1793 France, with the revolution at its height, only the Scarlet Pimpernel stands in the way of Citizen Robespierre and his henchman, Chauvelin (Martin Shaw). Suspecting the Pimpernel to be an English aristocrat, Chauvelin travels to England. There he encounters his former love, French actress Marguerite (Elizabeth McGovern), now married to the foppish Sir Percy Blakeny (Grant). Without realizing it, Marguerite betrays her husband by supplying Chauvelin with information regarding the Pimpernel.
