Film information
Story: Triple set of modern-day westerns. In 'The Quick and The Dead' (1995), Mayor Herod (Gene Hackman) has turned the town of Redemption from a friendly and safe place into a haven for criminals and thugs. In return for keeping these men on the streets, Herod receives fifty cents out of every dollar they make. Every year he holds a quick-draw shoot-out contest with a huge cash prize as bait. However, the only winner always seems to be the local mayor, until one year strapping female gunslinger Ellen (Sharon Stone) arrives in town to challenge him. In 'Open Range' (2003), Robert Duvall heads the cast as Boss Spearman, who, along with his partner Charley Waite ( Kevin Costner) and their two helpers, Mose (Abraham Benrubi) and Buttons (Diego Luna), has been leading a quiet nomadic life driving cattle across the plains for the last ten years. Their peaceful existence comes under threat when the local cattle rancher Baxter (Michael Gambon) suddenly warns the foursome to get off his land. Boss, already riled by Baxter's dirty dealings, decides to fight back, and the film climaxes in a dramatic gunfight between Boss and Charley and Baxter's hired gunmen. 'Desperado' (1995), is a hyper-violent post western tale of revenge starring Antonio Banderas as the mysterious stranger, Mariachi. He carries a guitar case full of weapons, which he plans to use to avenge the death of his girlfriend. Aided by his best friend and a beautiful book-store owner, he hunts down the last of the druglords, dispensing his own brand of justice to anyone who gets in the way. Robert Rodriguez directs what is both a sequel to, and a remake of, his critically acclaimed, low budget action adventure 'El Mariachi'.
