Based on: The novel 'Heart of the Old Country' by Tom McLoughlin
Story: Crime drama in which a young New Yorker from the wrong side of the tracks aims for a better life. Living with his semi-retired father in Brooklyn, 20 year old Mike Manadoro (Kevin Zegers) spends his days driving his father Vinny (Vincent D'Onofrio) around town for his numbers-running sideline. While his father is busy, Mike grasps any opportunity to indulge his favourite pastime - photography - recording the disappearing life and characters he sees in his neighborhood. When his portfolio comes to the attention of a local professor, he's offered a partial scholarship to attend a top-flight university in Manhattan. But with funds a problem, and his father too proud to ask for help, Mike soon has to take matters into his own hands, leading him down roads he doesn't want to take.
