Film information
Story: After a string of failed, lust-fuelled relationships, maths professor Gregory Larkin (Jeff Bridges) decides to choose future partners according to more cerebral criteria. Rose Morgan (Barbra Streisand), a lecturer in Romantic Literature, also appears to favour the platonic over the physical, and a relationship develops between them that seeks to put their high principles into practice. Rose's mother (an Oscar-nominated Lauren Bacall) remains unconvinced that celibacy and coupledom can coexist, and soon the behaviour of her daughter and partner threatens to justify her scepticism.
