Subtitling reviews:

Submitted by dvdmaniac on 7th March 2005:
Well subtitled"All of the titles in this collection are viewable either in a dubbed English language version (without subtitles) or a German language version with subtitles. The accompanying documentaries and interviews are in German with English subtitles. Although an English version with subtitles would have been welcome too, the German version at least is subtitled which should hopefully suit most people's purposes. Anchor Bay UK have been rather sparing with their subtitled discs, so it is pleasing to report on one that is well subtitled."

Film information

Story: A collection of eight sexploitation films by director Jesus 'Jess' Franco. Klaus Kinski stars in 'Jack the Ripper' (1979) as the Victorian serial killer, while Andreas Mannkopff plays Inspector Selby, assigned to the case by Scotland Yard. However, when his investigation begins to struggle, Selby's girlfriend Cynthia (Josephine Chaplin) decides to help him out by posing as a prostitute. Unfortunately, her plans work out too well as she comes face-to-face with the Ripper himself. In 'Love Letters of a Portuguese Nun' (1977), Maria (Susan Hemingway) is sent to a convent after being caught in flagrante delicto by her parents. However, her parents could not have known of the abuse their daughter would suffer at the hands of the monks and nuns in charge... In 'Love Camp' (1977), a group of women are kidnapped by guerrillas and brought to a jungle brothel, where they are forced to work as prostitutes for the soldiers. Those who refuse to cooperate are decapitated by the cruel, sadistic wardress of the camp - who is privately interested in some of the women herself. 'Barbed Wire Dolls' (1975) is set in a prison hospital ward for those with mental disturbances. Maria de Guerra has been sent to prison to serve a life sentence after killing her father when he attempted to rape her. Maria is put in the mental ward when she arrives - where torture, rape, and bestial violence are an everyday occurence. In 'Blue Rita' (1977), mysterious and powerful blonde sex bomb Blue Rita (Martine Flety) not only runs a much-frequented nightclub cum brothel, she also works undercover for several crime organisations and the secret services. Having been horrifically abused and tortured when she was younger, Rita despises men - and uses her clan of lesbian slaves to lure rich and powerful men into her deadly web of sexual torture, where intense pleasure soon gives way to the most extreme pain...In 'Ilsa the Wicked Warden' (1977), Greta del Pino is the sadistic warden of a women's concentration camp, deep in the jungle of South America. Protected by government forces, Greta is free to do what ever she wants to the prisoners - primarily involving herr favourite pastimes of sex and torture. In 'Voodoo Passion' (1977), Susan, the wife of a British consul in Haiti, arrives to live with her husband Jack whom she hasn't seen for years. She is welcomed by Inés, a strange lesbian who serves as a sort of housekeeper. She also meets Olga, a foul-mouthed nymphomaniac introduced as Jack's sister. It soon emerges that Jack seems to be locked in a passionate, possibly incestuous relationship with this 'sister' of his, and Susan becomes troubled by strange nightmares about sex, murder and bizarre ceremonies involving voodoo dolls... Finally, 'in 'Sexy Sisters' (1976), two sisters, Edna (Pamela Stanford) and Millie (Karine Gambier) live together on a remote country estate. Millie is an incurable nymphomaniac, and her doctor, Dr Barrios (Jack Taylor) realises that unless her desires are continually fulfilled she may well end up institutionalised. Her older sister Edna spends every night soliciting men as prescribed by the doctor. Once lured back to the estate, the men are subjected to a world of sex and depravity...
