Film information

Based on: The novel by Henrich Mann

Story: Professor Rath (Emil Jannings) discovers some postcards of night-club singer Lola-Lola (Marlene Dietrich) being passed among his class. He then goes to the club where the singer works in the hope of catching some of his students but instead becomes entranced by the vampish beauty of Lola herself. Josef von Sternberg's adaptation of Heinrich Mann's novel launched Dietrich onto the international scene, and includes her famous rendition of 'Falling in Love Again'. The film was originally shot in two different versions, one German, the other English, and this special edition contains both (the German version being presented with English subtitles).

Directed by: Josef von Sternberg

Music by: Frederick Hollander

Produced by: Erich Pommer
