Film information

Based on: The novel by Anne Tyler

Story: The ordered life of travel writer Macon Leary (William Hurt) is shattered by the death of his son. His wife, Sarah (Kathleen Turner), walks out on him, and after breaking his leg Macon is forced to move in with his eccentric sister and brothers. An awkward romance ensues when Macon hires dog trainer Muriel (Geena Davis) to discipline his son's unruly pet, but just as it seems his life has found a new course, Macon receives the news that Sarah wants him back.
