Film information

Story: Charles Boyer, Rita Hayworth, Ginger Rogers and Henry Fonda lead the cast in this series of short vignettes linked by the involvement of a supposedly cursed black formal coat in each. There are five vignettes in all. In the first, actor Paul Orman (Boyer) becomes involved with the malicious Ethel Halloway (Hayworth). The second also features a love entanglement, with Rogers, Fonda and Cesar Romero playing the leading roles. In the third, Charles Laughton plays an amateur musician who dreams of bigger things. The fourth follows struggling lawyer Avery Browne (Edward G. Robinson) as he attends a high school reunion, while the last segment stars Paul Robeson.
