Film information
Story: Four films starring legendary actor Robert Redford. 'The Natural' (1984) is set in Chicago, in 1924. Teenage baseball genius Roy Hobbs (Redford) is lured to a hotel room by a mysterious seductress (Barabra Hershey) and shot with a silver bullet. Fifteen years later, Roy reappears on the scene and helps lead the New York Knights into a fabulous winning streak, but again the arrival of a beautiful woman (Kim Basinger) threatens the future of his game. In 'The Way We Were' (1973), aspiring writer Hubbell Gardiner (Redford) and Jewish political activist Katie Morosky (Barbra Streisand) meet at college in the 1930s. Although attracted to each other, a romance does not ensue. However, they meet again during the Second World War, beginning an affair which eventually leads to marriage. But the relationship comes under strain when Katie begins to feel that Hubbell, pursuing his writing career in California, is beginning to sell out. In 'Out of Africa' (1985), Karen (Meryl Streep) arrives in Africa in 1914 and marries Baron Bror Blixen-Finecke (Klaus Maria Brandauer). Their marriage soon cools into a 'civilised' separation, but Karen finds herself falling in love with the wild, unfamiliar country and its people. Then she meets handsome, fiercely independent hunter Denys Finch Hatton (Redford), and a hesitant romance ensues. Finally, 'The Sting' (1973) is set in 1930s Illinois, where young hustler Johnny Hooker (Redford) vows revenge after his older partner (Robert Earl Jones) is murdered at the behest of kingpin Doyle Lonnegan (Robert Shaw) in retribution for a con pulled on one of his runners. Travelling to Chicago, Hooker teams up with old hand Henry Gondorff (Paul Newman), and together they plan the ultimate 'sting' against Donnegan.
