Film information
Story: Nine classic John Wayne westerns. In 'Blue Steel' (1934), a town is held to ransom by a band of outlaws when gold is discovered. All looks grim until John Wayne comes on the scene and stands up to them. With George 'Gabby' Hayes and Eleanor Hunt. In 'Wind of the Wastelands' (1936), Wayne stars as John Blair, a greenhorn cowboy who along with his partner Larry Adams (Lane Chandler) is swindled into buying a delapidated stagecoach line to the nowhere town of Crescent City. Their prospects are not as rosy as the unscrupulous seller, 'Honest' Cal Drake (Douglas Cosgrove) would have had them believe: Crescent City is a ghost mining town with only two inhabitants. However, the partners are offered a once-in-a-lifetime chance to increase their business potential: if they can beat their rival stageline in a race to Sacramento, they will secure a $25,000 government mail contract. But can they prevail against the devious tactics being employed against them by their villainous rivals, and win this all-important race? In 'The Trail Beyond' (1934), Wayne stars as a tough cowboy who takes on a villainous gang after they kidnap a young girl and take control of a gold mine. In 'Paradise Canyon' (1935), Wayne plays an undercover government agent who is assigned to a case to thwart a gang of counterfeiters. In 'The Dawn Rider' (1935), John Mason (Wayne) learns a bitter lesson when he witnesses his father being shot down in an express office hold up. Determined to bring the desperadoes to justice, Mason hunts them down, but is wounded as he does so. His reward is to be nursed back to health by the beautiful Marion Burns. In 'The Desert Trail' (1935), Wayne stars as a championship rodeo rider who finds himself falsely accused of being a bank robber, so he must battle to clear his name. In the comedy western 'McLintock' (1963), cattle baron George Washington McLintock (Wayne) will stop at nothing to regain the affections of his estranged wife (Maureen O'Hara). She has returned after a two-year separation to obtain a divorce, but begins to find herself being charmed all over again by her hard-drinking, straight-talking spouse. In 'Lawless Frontier' (1935), Wayne stars as a tough cowboy who teams up with a woman and her elderly father to avenge the murder of his parents. Finally, in 'The Star Packer' (1934), Wayne stars as a tough cowboy hell-bent on revenge, who infiltrates a gang of outlaws in order to track down the man responsible for the murder of his family.
