Based on: A short story by Philip K. Dick
Story: Earth, 2079. Years of protracted war with an alien planet have left the remaining human population tired, scared and paranoid. Engineer Spencer Olham (Gary Sinise) thinks he can bring an end to the conflict with a new weapon he has designed, but investigator D.H. Hathaway (Vincent D'Onofrio) believes Olham is an alien spy and pursuses him relentlessly. Forced to go on the run, Olham must now attempt to prove his innocence, helped only by his wife (Madeleine Stowe) and underground rebel Cale (Mekhi Phifer).
