Film information

Story: A profile of The Queen Mother, released to celebrate her 100th birthday. Entering the royal ranks after her marriage to Prince George, she was pivotal in preparing her husband for the throne when his brother Edward abdicated in 1936. Refusing to leave London for the safety of the countryside during the war, except to pay morale-boosting visits to bombed parts of Britain, Elizabeth was called 'the most dangerous woman in Europe' by Hitler. After the death of her husband, she oversaw the ascension of her daughter to the throne, defining a new role for herself as the nation's favourite mum. Sir John Mills narrates.
