Film information
Story: Triple bill of popular musicals. In 'Hairspray' (2007), Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky) is an overweight teenager with all the right moves who is obsessed with the Corny Collins Show. Every day after school, she and her best friend Penny (Amanda Bynes) run home to watch the show and drool over the hot Link Larkin (Zac Efron), much to Tracy's mother Edna (John Travolta)'s dismay. After one of the stars of the show leaves, Corny Collins (James Marsden) holds auditions for a replacement. With the help of her friend Seaweed (Elijah Kelly), Tracy makes it on the show, angering the evil dance queen Amber Von Tussle (Brittany Snow) and her mother Velma (Michelle Pfeiffer). Tracy then decides that it's not fair that the black kids can only dance on the Corny Collins Show once a month, and with the help of Seaweed, Link, Penny, Motormouth Maybelle (Queen Latifah), her father (Christopher Walken) and Edna, she decides to take action. In 'Evita' (1996), Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's stage musical is brought to the big screen with Madonna starring as Eva Peron. The film opens with the news of Eva's death in 1952, and her life story is told in flashback and song, narrated by Che (Antonio Banderas). Born into poverty, Eva travelled to Buenos Aires with tango singer Augustin Magaldi (Jimmy Nail) at the age of 15, and became in turn a model and actress. She then became involved with politician Juan Peron (Jonathan Pryce), campaigning for his release when he was imprisoned by the authorities. Freed by the people, Peron then became president of Argentina, with Eva as his first lady. Finally, 'The Phantom of the Opera' (2004) is an adaptation of another Lloyd Webber stage musical. Gerard Butler plays a disfigured musical genius who haunts the Paris Opera, waging a reign of terror over its occupants. But when he falls in love with Christine (Emmy Rossum), the Phantom devotes himself to creating a new star for the Opera.
