Film information:
Story: Triple-bill of classic Hollywood movies. 'A Farewell To Arms' (1932) is adapted from the classic Ernest Hemingway novel, and stars Gary Cooper as Frederick Henry, an American volunteer in the Italian army during World War One. Badly wounded in action, he is tended to by an English Red Cross nurse, played by Helen Hayes. They fall in love, but when Henry returns to the front his jealous friend Major Rinaldi ensures his letters never reach her. As the war comes to an end, Henry makes his way from the Front to find her. 'The Groom Wore Spurs' (1951) is a comedy starring Jack Carson as a movie actor entering into a marriage of convenience with his lawyer, Abigail Furnival (Ginger Rogers). After the wedding, Abigail is determined to transform her husband into the heroic image he portrays on screen. 'Indiscretion of An American Wife' (1953) was a collaboration between Hollywood producer David O. Selznick and Italian neo-realist director Vittoria De Sica. A contemplative character piece set in Rome's Stazione Termini, it follows an American housewife (Jennifer Jones) who is torn bewteen her Italian lover (Montgomery Clift) and thoughts of her husband back home.
