Certified Copy (2010) (Retail / Rental)5 Jul 2011 04:59:50 limogne:
"The main feature only has English subtitles for the dialogue in Italian and French. There are no subtitles for the dialogue in English - which is roughly half of the time. (However, the actor William Shimell speaks clearly, and there very little background noise and music. Juliette Binoche speaks English with a French accent.) The 'making of' feature is in several languages, but no subtitles are provided for English speakers."
Children's Ward: Series 1 (1989) (Retail Only)4 Jul 2011 16:30:28 Danage:
"There are no subtitles at all on these DVDs. Network, the company which released this set, don't subtitle most, if any, of their DVD releases."

Phenomena (1985) (Retail / Rental)2 Jul 2011 09:34:07 ica112:
"The Main feature on this one comes with 2 different English subtitle tracks. One for the italian dub, which I watched completely and think it's very good. An one for the english dub which differs from the italian dub in it's translation but is also well done. The movie comes with an short introduction by Sergio Stivaletti, which is also in italian with subtitles. The bonus Material consists of 3 featurettes. The Making Of is partly subtitled as a lot of the crew members speak Italian. There are bits and sentences where they use English and on these parts, the subtitler seemed to have gone for cigarettes. The other 2 featurettes are an Q&A session with the effects guy Sergio Stivaletti and an interview with Claudio Simonetti, these 2 features are NOT subtitled."
A Better Tomorrow (1986) (Special Edition Box Set) (Retail / Rental)28 Jun 2011 10:29:05 ica112:
"Main feature has English subtitles. The audio commentary by Bey Logan is not subtitled. The "crossings"-documentary looks like it was originally shot for tv and has no subtitles. The interviews with Woo and Fat are English subtitled."
Hard Boiled (1991) (Collector's Edition) (Retail / Rental)28 Jun 2011 10:22:43 ica112:
"Very good made English subs. Sadly there are no extras, but the image definitely made a huge step forward compared to the previous releases."
Red Cliff: Special Edition (2009) (Special Edition) (Retail Only)28 Jun 2011 10:20:21 ica112:
"Main movie is parted on 2 discs. Both with burnt-in English subtitles. A little introduction by John Woo himself is seen on disc 1, as well as some behind the scenes footage and an interview with him on disc 2, both also subtitled in English."
As Tears Go By (1988) (Deleted)28 Jun 2011 10:15:15 ica112:
"My DVD came with the Catalogue Number: TVD 3541 Main feature has english subtitles which are very good. In the trailer reel, there are some with subs and some with english voiceovers/narrations."
Chung-King Express (1996) (Deleted)28 Jun 2011 10:12:58 ica112:
"Main feature and Wong Kar Wai interview is subtitled. Christopher Doyle speaks chinese and some english in his interviews, where the english parts are not subtitled. Same goes for the complete introduction from Tarantino and of course, the trailer. I also had little trouble with the DVD navigation menue, as it didn't highlight by selecting a section. This accured on 3 different DVD Players as well as on my notebook and office PC. Therefor I guess the problem comes from the DVD itself, although I don't know if only my disc has this symptomes or other people noticed this problem, too."
Ashes of Time - Redux (2008) (Retail / Rental)28 Jun 2011 10:06:40 ica112:
"Feature has English subtitles that are very well done. Same goes for the interviews and the making of. Only the trailer is without subtitles."
Battle Royale (2000) (Limited Edition Box Set) (Deleted)28 Jun 2011 10:04:09 ica112:
"The optional English subs for both the theatrical cut and the special edition (it's not really a director's cut as Kinji Fukasaku stated the he preferred the theatrical version) are very well done. Also all the bonus material was English subtitled. And that's a lot!"
Battle Royale 2 - Requiem (2003) (Special Edition Box Set) (Deleted)28 Jun 2011 09:59:56 ica112:
"Main feature has optional English subs; same goes for the extended version on disc 2 as well as for the Making of the music, the behind the scenes featurette and the interviews."
Inferno (1980) (Retail / Rental)28 Jun 2011 09:54:39 ica112:
"Main feature has 2 english subtitle tracks: one for the Italian audio and one for the English, they differ from time to time in some scenes. The interviews with Daria Nicolodi and Dario Argento on disc 1 are hard-subbed in English, as for the most part they speak in italian. There are a few passages in English which are not subtitled, but these are normally just "5-word-parts". Even if English might not be your mother language, you should be able to get the point. Disc 2 features a documentary on Argento's career which has no subtitles. English voiceovers are used for the Italian language parts. These are done very clear and understandable. Trailer gallery also has no subtitles but they are also less focussed on dialogue rather than on imagery."
The Illusionist (2010) (Retail Only)26 Jun 2011 05:20:35 limogne:
"There are no subtitles at all, despite the claim on the back of the box that there are English HOH subtitles on the main feature. However, this is not too much of a problem as there is very little dialogue in the film, and what there is, is mainly phatic (grunts and greetings) though in French and English. The main disappointment is that the 86 minute interview with Chomet at Edinburgh film festival is also without subtitles."
Robbie Coltrane's B Road Britain (2007) (Deleted)24 Jun 2011 08:51:42 limogne:
"None of the three episodes have any subtitles at all."
Paul (2011) (Blu-ray) (+ DVD and Digital Copy - Triple Play) (Pulled)23 Jun 2011 17:02:23 infared:
"This Blu-Ray is extremely well English subtitled! All the extras (and there are a lot of them) have English subtitles! Even the film trailers have English subtitles! If only all Films were like this!"
