Film information
Based on: The Broadway musical/novels by Michael Cunningham & Hayden Herrera
Story: A box set of dramas revolving around feisty women. 'Chicago' sees Renee Zellweger and Catherine Zeta Jones star in an Oscar-winning big screen adaptation of the popular Broadway show. In 1920s Chicago nightclub singer Velma Kelly (Zeta Jones) and aspiring starlet Roxie Hart (Zellweger) are both arrested on the same night for committing two different murders. Placed in jail together, both women accept the advice of lawyer Billy Flynn (Richard Gere) and soon begin using their present circumstances to further their quest for wealth and fame. 'The Hours' is the tale of three women linked by the Virginia Woolf novel, Mrs. Dalloway. Nicole Kidman won the Best Actress Oscar for her performance as the novelist battling insanity. Julianne Moore also stars as a Los Angeles housewife reading the novel and Meryl Streep plays a modern-day version of Mrs. Dalloway. Whilst 'Frida' is the film biography of one of Mexico's most prominent, iconoclastic painters - Frida Kahlo (Salma Hayek). Having recovered from the crippling effects of polio, Kahlo is lucky to survive a city bus accident. Bed-ridden, she is able to produce many art pieces and, when she is fit again, she presents them to Rivera (Alfred Molina) who takes her under his wing as an artist. But their relationship is no easy ride.
