Film information

Story: Collection of four programmes about Britain's musical talent in the 1960s, featuring Dusty Springfield, Small Faces, Herman's Hermits and Gerry and the Pacemakers. The first programme focuses on one of Britain's best loved female singers, Dusty Springfield, and combines the story of her career with 20 live performances, including 'I Only Want to Be With You', 'Son of a Preacher Man', 'Wishin' and Hopin'' and 'I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself'. In addition to the performances, there are interviews with Burt Bacharach and some of Dusty's backing singers. The second programme focuses on legendary mods, Small Faces. Included are interviews with band members Jimmy Winston, Ian McLagan and Kenny Jones, as well as archive footage of interviews with Steve Marriot and Ronnie Lane. Also included are 27 live performances filmed between 1966 and 1969 which include some of their biggest hits, such as 'Green Circles', 'All Or Nothing', 'What'cha Gonna Do About It' and 'Itchycoo Park'. The third programme focuses on Herman's Hermits and features 22 live performances from the band between 1964 and 1969, including their biggest hits 'I'm Into Something Good', 'Mrs Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter', 'I'm Henry VIII, I Am' and 'Wonderful World', as well as interviews with band members Peter Noone, Keith Hopwood, Karl Green and Barry Whitwam. The final programme focuses on Gerry and the Pacemakers, and features 17 live performances from between 1963 and 1965, when they were at the height of their career. Among the songs included are: 'Ferry Cross the Mersey', 'Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying' and 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. The programme also contains interviews with Gerry Marsden at the Cavern Club in Liverpool, and with Bill Harry.
