Film information

Based on: The novel 'Sangra y Arena' by Vicente Blasco Ibanez

Story: A Technicolor remake of the 1922 silent (which starred Rudolph Valentino), this classic 1940s melodrama stars Tyrone Power as Juan Gallardo, the matador who rises to fame after being lavishly praised by a notoriously tough critic, Natalio Curro (Laird Cregarbut). Juan's fame goes to his head, and he finds himself in an unfamiliar world of sophisticated socialites. Torn between wordly, beautiful aristocrat Dona Sol (Rita Hayworth) and his faithful wife and childhood sweetheart Carmen Espinosa (Linda Darnell), he continues to dream of being the greatest matador of all time, with all the dangers this entails - but is trapped by the two women he loves. The film won an Academy Award for Best Cinematography.
