Story: A wide-ranging portrait of race relations in contemporary America from director James Toback. When ex-criminal Rich Bower (Power) decides to make it as a rapper he finds himself entering a different world, one full of greedy, white businessmen and rich, white teenagers enthralled by black culture. But Rich's old friend Dean (Allan Houston), an up-and-coming basketball player, is being badgered by a ruthless white cop (Ben Stiller) into betraying Rich. The last thing the rapper wants is for his past to catch up with him, yet when Dean's girlfriend (Claudia Schiffer) tells Rich about Dean's plans and events escalate towards murder, the pull of the past seems inescapable.
