Film information

Based on: A true story/the book by Tom Gaddis

Story: Based on the true story of Robert Stroud, as told by Tom Gaddis in his renowned biography. Hardened murderer Stroud (Burt Lancaster) is a withdrawn prison inmate who discovers a way of dealing with his isolation when he begins to care for a sick bird, nurses it back to health, develops an interest in ornithology, and becomes a world authority on the subject. Even when he is transferred to the notorious 'Rock' in San Francisco Bay, his interest does not abate.
