Film information

Based on: Real events

Story: 1940s western loosely based on the life of Belle Starr, a notorious outlaw who lived in America in the 1800s. Following the Civil War, Belle (Gene Tierney)'s land is taken by Yankee soldiers, and, determined to seek revenge, she joins forces with Southern confederate Captain Sam Starr (Randolph Scott), whom she later marries. Backed by a group of rebels, the two carry out a series of raids, which soon earns Belle an infamous reputation. When Sam makes some questionable decisions, however, Belle begins to doubt his commitment to the cause.
