Film information

Based on: The novel by Arthur Hailey ('Airport')

Story: Air disaster triple. 'Airport' (1970) is the first of four in the series. A plane bound for Rome is hijacked by a mad bomber, who proceeds to blow himself up. With a crippled plane in the sky and a stalled jet blocking the only runway on which it could land, ground crew chief Joe Patroni (George Kennedy) attempts to avert disaster. In the sequel, 'Airport 75' (1974), Columbia Airlines Flight 409 is struck by a small plane while en route from Washington DC to Los Angeles, leaving its pilot, Captain Stacy (Efrem Zimbalist Jr), blinded and its co-pilot dead. Can chief stewardess Nancy Pryor (Karen Black) keep the giant aircraft aloft while her lover, former jet pilot Alan Murdock (Charlton Heston), is lowered by helicopter through the gaping hole in its nose? Jack Lemmon stars in the third film, 'Airport 77' (1977), as the pilot of James Stewart's private 747, which crashes into the Atlantic Ocean after being sabotaged. A dangerous rescue bid follows...
