Film information
Based on: The novel by Ian Fleming/The stories by Hugh Lofting
Story: A triple bill of family favourites. Children's writer Roald Dahl helped to adapt 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' (1968), a fantasy by James Bond-creator Ian Fleming. When inventor Caractacus Potts (Dick van Dyke) acquires a run-down racing car and renovates it for his children, Jeremy and Jemima, he makes a few extra improvements. The car, christened Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, now has the ability to fly, and takes the Potts and their friend, Truly Scrumptious (Sally Ann Howes) on an exciting adventure. Arriving in the kingdom of wicked Baron Bomburst (Gert Frobe), they find themselves pursued by the evil Child Catcher (Robert Helpmann), while the Baron, desperate to get his hands on the car, kidnaps Jeremy and Jemima's grandfather (Lionel Jeffries) by mistake. 'Agent Cody Banks' (2003) stars Frankie Muniz ('Malcolm in the Middle') in a James Bond spoof about a young teen picked out of nowhere by the CIA to become a super-agent and save the world. His mission is to get friendly with classmate Natalie (Hilary Duff of 'Lizzie McGuire' fame), whose father is creating indestructible robots and is hell-bent on world domination. Can Cody stop the baddies and also deal with the usual teenage troubles; such as nagging parents, school and getting the girl. Based on the children's stories by Hugh Lofting, 'Dr Dolittle' (1998) stars Eddie Murphy as John Dolittle, who as a boy finds that he can talk to animals, but his disapproving father forces him to repress his gift. Now a doctor with a young family, John rediscovers his ability after accidentally running over a dog. He begins to communicate with animals again, and soon has a queue of ailing pets in his waiting room. However, John's colleagues, worried for his sanity, have him committed to an asylum.
