Film information
Based on: The 1936 feature 'Mr Deeds Goes to Town'
Story: Triple-bill of romantic comedies starring Adam Sandler. In '50 First Dates' (2004), Drew Barrymore stars as Lucy Whitmore, a beautiful woman suffering from acute short-term memory loss. After a car accident several months before, she has been left with a rare brain condition that causes her memory to be totally erased every night when she goes to sleep. Sandler plays Henry Roth, a vet who works at the aquarium in the Hawaiian resort where Lucy is living a quiet life with her over-protective father (Blake Clark) and goofy brother (Sean Astin). Henry usually spends his summers seducing a string of female tourists that he'll never see again - but when he meets Lucy he realises he's found something special, and resolves to give up his promiscuous, non-commital lifestyle. The only problem is, when he meets her again the next day, she hasn't got a clue who he is. Henry embarks on an elaborate quest to win her heart, with the help of his stoner best friend Ula (Rob Schneider). Dan Akroyd makes a cameo appearance as Lucy's doctor. In 'Spanglish' (2004), a beautiful native Mexican woman Flor (Paz Vega), the mother of an equally stunning 12-year-old, becomes the housekeeper for an affluent Los Angeles family (Sandler, Tea Leoni and Anne Bancroft). Of all the horrifying pitfalls she worried about in this new culture, Flor had never fathomed the peril of being truly embraced by an upscale American family. Finally, in 'Mr Deeds' (2002), smalltown poet and pizzeria owner Longfellow Deeds (Sandler) inherits $40 billion from his uncle and sets off for New York to take over his new business empire, bringing his smalltown values with him. Television reporter Babe Bennett (Winona Ryder) poses as an innocent smalltown girl in order to dig up any dirt on him, but, despite her best efforts, finds him to be nothing other than a gentleman, and even falls for him.
