Film information
Based on: A true story/the novel 'Treasure Island' by Robert Louis Stevenson
Story: Pirate double bill, telling the stories of two of the most famous pirates in history. 'Captain Kidd' (1945) stars Charles Laughton as the cruel, ruthless pirate. Despite his reputation, King William III enlists Kidd and his men to safeguard passage of a treasure ship from India. Of course, Kidd has other ideas and Adam Mercy (Randolph Scott) is the man charged with bringing him to justice. In 'Long John Silver's Return To Treasure Island' (1953), Long John Silver (Robert Newton) turns up on a British Caribbean island, where he hears that rival pirate Mendoza (Lloyd Berrell) has taken the ship carrying the governor's daughter...and his young friend Jim Hawkins (Kit Taylor). Naturally, there's more to his rescue plan than meets the eye: he hopes to get a new ship and go back for more treasure buried there by his colleague, Captain Flint. At the same time, Silver also hopes to bring to safety the governor's daughter and a young boy, both of whom were abducted by the menacing El Toro, a pirate with no conscience.
